  • Hello my name is Lorne Kerr, I attended the motorcycle course on the 18 April 08 in Kingston. First I am a 50 year old man who finally decided to live a dream i.e. get my bike license.

The instructors for this course were Alex, Judith, Maggie, Tom and Ron was there late in the afternoon on the Sunday. I found the course challenging more so than I thought it would be. I found the instructors were patient and calm, no matter what the situation they were there for us. All aspects of the course were taught logically and one exercise built upon another. The rule of the only dumb question is the one not asked applied which greatly helped students such as myself who soon found out they had lots of questions but were sometimes hesitant to ask. This course was no walk in the park it was both mentally and physically challenging. It was the crucial first stepping stone in becoming not only a good rider, but a safe rider as well. All that is required now is experience and logging a lot of hours on the bike. Now I would like to take a moment to compliment each of the staff members who presented and trained us in the course.

Alex (in charge of the course) Alex was professional, knowledgeable instructor who stressed the safety aspects of the course throughout the course. He was logical, organized, and skilful. He also stressed that the course was to be enjoyable and fun without losing sight of the fact that learning to ride is a serious and demanding endeavour. His high level of energy as the head instructor only added to the fun and enjoyment of the course, his encouragement and helpful input helped me to succeed in this course.

Maggie (assisted) Maggie is a very serious and knowledgeable rider who did demos for us during the course. I found her to be absolutely excellent in this area when she was demonstrating a particular exercise she did it flawlessly especially demonstrating eyes up. She was clear, concise, who would correct a student when correcting was necessary but was quick to praise a student who was doing well. Her tips and teaching abilities coupled with her professional attitude did help to make both the course and learning environment enjoyable and fun.

Judith (assisted) What can I say about Judith, she was an astounding instructor whose enthusiasm and drive made this course a huge success for me. Her encouragement and drive helped all students better understand when they were doing something right and also helped immensely with her tips on how to correct a problem. Her enthusiasm and love of motor cycling was evident from the start. She was both a professional and skilful instructor who also added to enjoyment of the course and whose dynamic personality, enthusiasm and love of the sport added to a winning team. (both staff and students)

Tom (assisted) Tom also did demos for us and provided critique and encouragement throughout the course. As was with the rest of the staff team he was absolutely professional, knowledgeable who was able to provide feed back in a constructive manner not a condemning manner which helped to bolster confidence. You couldn't help but to feel and get the impression that he was thoroughly enjoying teaching the class and the students which also helped to build confidence.

The only suggestion I have and I truly believe would be of great benefit would be to have everyone get on their bikes and to follow an instructor around the training area so that they are warmed up and ready to get the most out of the lessons. I believe this should be done first thing in the morning and after any sort of lengthy break i.e.: lunch. I found that if I was warmed up first I could ride better and get more out of the training. Simply learning each exercise as mentioned was made more difficult not being warmed up first this would have completed the confidence building experience. I realize at the same time that there is a lot of material to cover in a short period of time. Perhaps if the theory portion could be completed prior to the course such as a study at home package that would free up some extra time. However, I don't know if this would even be possible just putting forth an idea.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on the M2 course, as mentioned above it was setup in a logical manner with each new exercise building on the previous one. I cannot give enough praise to the instructing staff on how they conducted themselves and the manner in which they instructed on the course, one word I suppose simply covers it all (PROFESSIONAL).

Thanks once again for opportunity and experience it was great!

  • Just wanted to drop you a line to officially thank the instructors of the Motorcycle Safety M2 Exit course that I took this past weekend in Kingston at St Lawrence College. Ron, Ryan, Maggie and Werner were the course instructors, and without exception they were all great!!! I'm a "middle aged" woman who is admittedly not the bravest in the world, but thanks to the course content, and the encouragement and pointers from the instructors, I was able to pass the course and now feel a sense of confidence in my ability to ride a bike!!!

Thanks Ron, your extensive experience and knowledge were more than helpful!

Thanks Ryan - your obvious love of the sport, knowledge and flexibility in teaching style really helped a lot to encourage students to overcome problems that they were experiencing.

Thanks Maggie - your calmness and reassurance was contagious which really helps when a student is getting frazzled!

Thanks Werner your encouragement and "good eye" to catch the little details were both equally helpful!

In all, I really thank the organizers of this course. It was well run, flowed smoothly (with the exception of the faulty computer) and I cannot imagine getting into riding without the course! I will be back when it is time to take the M Exit course and test.

    My only suggestions would be:

    1) a port-a-potty close to the course:)

    2) it would be awesome to be able to take "refresher type" courses on our own bikes that aren't linked to a ministry test, but which would help riders to become better riders on their own (possibly new) bikes.

    Thanks again
    Ginny (Virginia) Kerr

  • The course was absolutely fantastic. The progression of the course from start to finish was perfect, as was the repetition of the exercises. Your instructors are phenomenal... I have never met such a great (and good looking) bunch of people. They were positive, provided constructive criticism, and possessed exceptional people skills. If you were responsible for their "Customer Service" training, you should definitely consider providing courses to others because your instructors were top notch.

Having never been on a motorcycle (other than as a passenger), understandably, I was quite apprehensive and nervous. However, the instructors provided a safe and relaxed environment that seemed to ease any reservations I had about riding the motorcycle. I was also quite impressed with their diplomacy and tact when dealing with those students who may have encountered "issues" with their bikes (ie: staying on them), they dealt with them professionally and discretely so as not to bring unwanted attention.

I could go on forever...it was just such a wonderful experience and your instructors left me in awe. I'll be singing the courses praises for years to come!!!

Thank you so much for allowing me to participate.

    Thanks,
    Marisa Cassar

  • Hi,
I attended the M2 course on April 11-13 at Loyalist College. Ryan, Leo and Devin were awesome!!

It would be a great advantage to have the M2 Exit course at Loyalist College, as well. Please consider adding this venue to your curriculum in the future.

  • On April 4, 5 & 6 I was enrolled in the first M2 course of this season at Loyalist College. I must admit I was very nervous. I had never ridden a motorcycle before and had already purchased an 883 Harley Roadster Low Rider so I was determined to pass the course (and I did!!) Determination alone was not enough. What made the difference was the instructors. Bill, Devin, Mike and John were amazing. It was their expertise and encouragement that kept me going. I don't know how they knew when I was only applying the front brake or holding in the clutch unnecessarily but they did. There were 15 of us in the class and they did not miss a thing but never did they make me feel discouraged. There was always words of encouragement and praise. Safety was always put first but having fun was a must. I am so pleased to be able to celebrate 60 on a Harley. I look forward to eventually getting my M license and hope by then that course will be offered at Loyalist. If those instructors can get me through the M2 program, I am sure they can get me to my M.

    With thanks,

  • To Bob

Just finished the course today. It was great. Made me aware of so many things about riding a motorcycle I did not know. Had never been on one until yesterday, and will be picking up one I bought on April 15.

I feel that it would be impossible to put a value on this course. I am sure that when I start to ride my new cycle I will be much safer and so will the motorcycle because of what I have learned.

Many thanks to Ron, Brett and George, as their teaching was great. They were very supportive and helpful.

You would have to look long and hard to find any better instructors.

On the negative side, a much faster computer in the classroom would be a real asset, as would a porta potty outside.

Thanks for your teaching and patience,
    Alf Boyce

  • Hi there!
    Okay...I'm blonde, 45, female, no experience...and I passed!
The instructors were fantastic! Great personalities, constant encouraging feedback, seamless progressions.

Please pass along my thanks and tell them to look out for the middle aged broad on the black/copper Harley Lowrider (I bought it today). Also, that we students do listen and heed their advice...I got the full face helmet, as per their recommendation.

I'll be sure to recommend the course.

    Take care,
    Jane Pierson (Barbara)

  • Just completed M2 Course in Whitby this last weekend, great course great instructors.

I had not ridden a bike in almost 20 yrs, and the course and instructors made me feel very comfortable.

I will recommend this course to others, as it was recommended to me.

    Keep up the good work.

  • THIS IS ACTUALLY A NOTE FOR MR. BOB WEIL CONCERNING THE THREE TRAINERS WE HAD THIS PAST WEEKEND (OCT 5-7) IN PETERBOROUGH. I REALLY HAD NO EXPECTATIONS GOING INTO THE WEEKEND OTHER THAN "HOW ARE THESE PEOPLE GOING TO TRAIN ME TO RIDE A MOTORCYCLE". I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I AM SO VERY IMPRESSED WITH THESE PEOPLE; JOHN FOX, ANITA MEIHE AND BECKY (MISSED HER LAST NAME). I THINK THAT IF THIS IS THE QUALITY OF INDIVIDUAL I'M GOING TO COME IN CONTACT WITH WHEN I GET A BIKE AND RIDE NEXT YEAR....IT WILL BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.

AGAIN........THANKS VERY MUCH FOR HELPING ME WITH MY "MID-LIFE CRISIS".

    John Whalen

  • Mr. Bob Weil;

You probably don’t know me, so I’ll introduce myself in a sentence (or two). I am turning fifty years old this year. I have been involved in the transportation industry (as a profession) for 32 years. Starting in the military at seventeen years old, I attended the RMC (Kingston) for two years, specializing in the transportation of volatile commodity (ka-boom stuff). Following my five year tenure with the RCN, I furthered my education in the field with three years of transportation physics, and transport/trip maintenance and management. I worked for various truck-load carriers for fourteen more years, including 12 ˝ years of instructing in class, on the skid course (SNC University, Green Bay, Wi.), and in the pacific area mountains. In 1992, I accepted employment with the Toronto Transit Commission. I am currently a Divisional Instructor at Birchmount Division of the TTC. I also hold twenty some trophies for champion bus competition driving across Canada. (forty eighth in North America). Four consecutive years as Grand Champion.

In August of this year (2007), I completed the “Gearing Up” course at Durham College’s Whitby Campus, a three day course focusing on the safe operation of a motorcycle. Now comes the part where I have to put into words (within reasonable parameters) the paramount impact this course has had on me and the attitude I embrace toward motorcycling, and as importantly, motorcyclists as a whole. Bob, I usually have no trouble with words, or communicating with others. There is a book of compliments waiting to be written, and there isn’t the space, or the time to say it all.

ALL MOTORCYCLISTS WILL COME OUT ON TOP OF IT ALL IF THEY APPLY THEMSELVES TO YOUR COURSE! BAR NONE! I have been practicing and applying the theories, and techniques your instructors shared with me, since the day I passed (with 100%). Braggart! YEP! Mike “Chicago”, Ron (can’t remember his last name, sorry. Matt, shit the list goes to about 10 to 15 people who have put it all together for me. I have been so fortunate to have been blessed with instructors who were/are totally interested in MY SUCCESS, and MY SAFETY, and MY ENJOYMENT, while riding my motorcycle. There aren’t enough thanks on this planet to express my appreciation for the devotion these people have applied, to ensure that everyone they teach succeeds. So far, I am living testimony to the success that can be achieved through trusting the masters. It was fun being a trainee again. It was a blast when I made a goof-up, and the instructors were right there (“suck it up buttercup, AND DO IT AGAIN TIL YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT!”) Laughing with each other, feeling their pain, helping each other as students, it was all there, and you guys made it happen. I am certain that I am not the only person who has felt the positive impact of your course and the instructors, and the designers of the program, who we as students have or may never meet. Many of us just take it for granted (they teach we learn, now get me out of here I’ve got stuff to do). Many just do not have the time in their lives to say thank you, although I don’t understand why not.

You and all the instructors did more than teach. It went way deeper than that. I’ve enhanced my entire driving lifestyle with what I’ve learned in the course. Something of that importance cannot be left without gratitude being expressed.

Thanks to you, Bob, and every instructor, in every city, for spending their valuable time helping people to learn and improve our skills. EVERYTHING YOU FOLKS TAUGHT ME IS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE PRACTICED EVERY TIME I GET ON MY BIKE. (incidentally; 1982 Honda Goldwing GL1100 Interstate, now 2/3 restored, custom). My rides are amazing, and relaxing, and I owe it to you and the Gearing Up Instructors.

My Greatest Respect, and Appreciation is yours.

Until The Advanced Motorcycle Course, I remain

    Yours sincerely,
    Stephen G. Burley

  • I took my M2 course this weekend at Durham College (Whitby). The course was excellent.

Although I have ridden dirt bikes for many years, it was very helpful translating that into a street-like experience.

I don't know why anyone would want to strap on a helmet and step on a bike without this course!

  • I've just finished the M2 course (Sept. 28 - 30) at Durham College -Whitby Campus.

My instructors were Bernie, Chris, Andy, John, Mike, Sue, and Brett.
I learned a lot in a short period of time. All my gratitude to Bernie, Chris, Andy, John, Mike, Sue, and Brett who are great instructors. The instructions were very clear and concise. I also had a lot of fun!

    Thank you very much!

  • My sister and I took the M2 course Sept 21-23 , we were so glad we took it. What a great learning experience. The instructors were excellent, a pleasure to meet and learn from. Bryce ,Dave and Tim. Would not hesitate to tell my friends. Bryce really knows his stuff, and made the classroom hours go by quick. As for Tim a little quiet, but also knows his stuff and for Dave he took the edge off with a little bit of humour, which we all needed.

So thanks to all the instructors for a great job done.

  • To whom it may concern:

Just a quick email to say Thank you to the Great Instructors I had the pleasure of dealing with!

I took the introductory course this past weekend (September 22nd & 23rd) at the Whitby location. Ron was the primary instructor, accompanied by Mike, Tony, Cecil, Mark, and a few others. These gentlemen were very professional, yet made the weekend very enjoyable! For a novice rider, I learned a ton!

Thank for the great experience! I will surely be back for the M2 exit course!!

Please pass my comments along to the instructors!

    Regards,
    Jeff Van Grootel

  • Hi Bob;

I recently attended the M2 training course this past weekend (Sept. 21-23) and I have some comments I'd like to share with you:

First of all, the in-class instructor Ron was very well versed during all our in-class sessions. He knew the material and explained it very precisely without losing the classes attention at all. He explained the safety and rules of the road and got me so excited to ride, I just couldn't wait!

Saturday morning was a little harder for me trying to grasp the whole concept for SEE and following through with it. Again Ron was there to assist and remind the class not to think about it too much and just do it. He was right - listen to what they are telling us and it will work! We trusted him and it worked.

By the afternoon with the assistance of your team: Tony, Mike, Gary, Bernie, Brian and Cecil & Matt (who each took a day that weekend) I was well on my way to learning how to ride safely. What an accomplishment these men helped me achieve!

I would like to say a big thank you to all of them for helping me achieve this milestone in my life. I'm '39' and so looking forward to all the great rides I'll take in as I turn another chapter in my life and ride my way into '40'.

Mike and his singing kept me so happy and Cecil's kind words and genuine affinity for people encouraged me. I was upset to see Cecil go but then we got Matt and he was just as great. Thank you!

Bob - You should be very proud of your team and all their great experience that only years of riding can teach you. I hope you'll share this note with the group. They all contributed to a very important page in my life.

If there is anything you could improve on the course - I'd say no - just "Continue to encourage the HAVE FUN - that's what riding is all about."

P.S. My 17 year old daughter is now looking forward to taking the course! The best $400 I've spent in a long time.

    Thanks again. Ride Safe!

  • Good evening,

I took the motorcycle course on Sept 14-16 at Loyalist College. Our instructors were John Milner and John Fox. These two gentlemen were just EXCEPTIONAL. I must tell you that I now do not believe anyone should be able to have their M2 without this course. It gave me such useful and practical information that I feel is invaluable. Please extend my thanks to John Milner and Fox for their outstanding coaching abilities, I am truly grateful.

    Best Regards

  • Hi Guys: Bryce, Tim and Super Dave

Anita, Jestine and Amanda would like to thank you for your patience, enthusiasm and teaching abilities. We started this course knowing nothing, had never rode a bike before, were nervous, fearful and at the same time excited. We want you to know that you taught us lots and we are confident in our abilities with our motorcycling skills now. Keep up the great work and hopefully we'll see ya on the open road.

Thanks again, remember, have fun, smile and don't hit the guys in red!!!!!!!!!!

    HAPPY TRAILS!!!!!!!!
    Amanda, Jestine and Anita

  • Hi, I just finished the M1 to M2 course here in Peterborough. Sept. 14 to 16th. My instructors, Ray, Rick, and Bernie were a lot of fun. I couldn't have asked for better teachers. The three really know how to ride and I can only hope that I'm able to ride as well as they do in the future. High marks to all of them. I will be back for the M2 to M in the future.

    Thank-you.

  • Hello, My name is Rick Smith and I completed the M2 Course at Loyalist College in Belleville this past weekend (September 14/15/16).

I have been away from motorcycling for 30 years and recently took it up again. In the 6 weeks before taking the course I had re-familiarized myself by riding my 2001 HD Fatboy. I went to the course with 1000 kms under my belt wondering what to expect. Would I be bored? Would I learn anything new?

I am pleased to say that not only was I NOT bored, I learned and practiced several new things that I would NEVER have learned without formal training. There is no way someone could teach themselves the valuable skills we practiced. I wish more current riders would know this.

John Milner and John Fox were our instructors and we all felt they did an excellent job. They kept the mood light and fun while still stressing the seriousness and importance of every key lesson upon us. They worked with us one on one when necessary and always made us feel that we could do it, even when we were having some difficulties.

I learned new skills and was reminded of ones that I had let lapse over time. I will now ride with new confidence and safety on my motorcycle AND when I drive my car. The roads of Ontario would be safer if every motorcycle and even every car driver took this course.

    Well done.
    Rick Smith

  • Hello:
I took the M2 Exit Course with Garth and Bryce in Peterborough. These gentleman are great. They work wonderful as a team and they have a professional way of teaching riding techniques without making you feel overwhelmed or embarrassed. We practiced until everyone in the class got it. I think I can safely say that we all felt well prepared for the examination at the end.

Thank you gentleman. You were both great! Could not have done it without you.

  • Have you ever heard the saying that physicians make the worst patients? I'm sure that goes the same for trainers being the worst students. I'm a software trainer and have never enjoyed being on the attendee side of any training on any subject - until now. Mike, Fred, and Paul did a fantastic job with the M2 course in Peterborough this past August 19.. I appreciated their patience, caring, encouragement, and enthusiasm for the topic at hand. They rarely farted, and they gave me a passing grade at the end of the course. What more can I ask for? So, thanks guys. I'll definitely be back for the M2 exit course.

  • My wife and I completed the M2 course in Peterborough at Sir Sanford Fleming College, July 20-22, 2007, and we had a fantastic experience. Mike Weil, Chris Landry, and Matt Otten provided the most amazing guidance I have ever experienced in any training course, they were stern but sincere, very knowledgeable and very adaptable to each of the student's needs, and kept a great sense of humour through the whole very hot weekend. I had ridden years before, and I was humbled by how little I actually knew about riding safely! I would say I went into this course with only 10% good skills, I am much more aware now and I practice what I learned every day to keep that good "muscle memory" I developed that weekend. I ride a 2005 Suzuki Burgman 400, a "maxi-scooter" which handles differently than a motorcycle because it has smaller tires, a longer wheelbase, and an automatic transmission, but I was able to adapt what I learned to my machine and I was surprised how much more capable it was on the road, and how much more confident I became with emergency manoeuvres. My wife Gillian was a total newbie, and not only did you take her from nothing to riding, but she had so much fun and felt so comfortable riding that not only does she actually ride my bike now, we have purchased her a brand new Suzuki Marauder 250  so we can ride together. We are also lucky to live near the College, and in the evenings we go to the very same parking lot we trained at and practice the techniques we were taught. We switch bikes each practice  so we can both be confident on the different machines. And keeping to  her promise to Chris and Matt, she has practiced enough that she feels she can handle the real road on her own machine, and she truly enjoys the ride.

  • Hello, For many years I have wanted to ride a motorcycle and finally just signed up for the M2 course. I live in Toronto but I heard that the courses through the Motorcycle Course were one of the best and approved by the MTO. Despite it being a trek from Toronto everyday, I wanted a reputable school and was not disappointed. I had my apprehension that I would ride a bike in a weekend but this course was so well designed and all the instructors were very knowledgeable and engaging. I struggled with gear shifting and with instructions and encouragement from them, I overcame every mental and physical challenge and gained the confidence necessary to ride.

Special thanks to Michelle, Ryan, Matt, Brett, and Jamie who not only provided valuable knowledge, insight and experience but made the course fun (darn it!) :) and inspired us to be good riders. Your lessons will go a long way and help keep us all safe.

    p.s. I am in ready position.... :)

    Thanks!

  • Good morning!
This past weekend I was part of the Intro course at Durham College. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my experience with your amazing instructors! I had never been on a bike before this weekend and they made me feel comfortable and at ease.

I loved how the course was broken down, and started at the VERY beginning. The instructors were very patient and encouraging the entire time and I never felt out of place or bad for screwing up.

Jamie, Michelle, Matt, Brett, Ryan and all the instructors there this weekend all deserve a pat on the back for a job very well done! (Even when my bike wouldn't start and they had to jumpstart it 12 times they kept calm and didn't mind helping me out!)

Thank you for a great experience and I'll see you for my M2 exit!

  • I just completed my M1 exit at St. Lawrence on August. 19th. My instructors Alex, Martha and Tom were very professional, personable and fun to be with all week-end. They made the experience one that as a long time rider I was very impressed and rid my self of some of the bad habits that I have picked over the years. I will be recommending to any one whom I ride with, who are either new to riding or experienced to take the course for knowledge and fun, and they will not be disappointed.

Thanks again for the great week-end and I am looking forward to our next meeting

    Sincerely
    Blair Henshaw

  • To whom it may concern,

I am originally from New Zealand and have been officially riding motorcycles since 1984. I have just taken the M2 course at St Lawrence College this past weekend.

Mike Gleeson, Harold and Jeanine were our instructors and I wanted to comment on their high standards of instruction. One of the hardest tasks as an instructor is to cater to a variety of different levels and abilities. Our three instructors did this perfectly.

From the moment we stepped into the classroom Mike set a professional yet personable tone. Harold's exemplary demonstrations were always completed with a smile and witty comment which eased a number of concerned students. Jeanine was the consummate professional who really related to the individual riders.

All three instructors were very knowledgeable and friendly. They were quick to identify the individual needs of the students and adapt accordingly. I would not hesitate to recommend this course and especially the three instructors we had.

    Thank you!
    Cheers
    Grant

  • I just finished my M2 exit course and leaving today I really felt I wanted to say thanks again to Gary and Trevor. As I women rider I can be intimidated by the stereo-typical guy scene and was pleased to find two other women in our group as well. Gary and Trevor were most welcoming. The course was excellent and those two made the weekend a great one! Their support was much appreciated and the instruction was well taken. This course has helped me to remain a confident rider. It was great to have instructors that appreciate riding too.

Here's hoping this gets passed along to you guys!

    Thanks again.

  • Hello: I completed the M2 Course in Whitby this weekend and wish to express my thanks for all the assistance and encouragement of your team. They are a well trained team who put us at ease and kept reassuring us throughout the weekend. Saturday morning when choosing a bike, I met Brent, who realized that I needed a smaller size. He located a bike, adjusted it for me and then later checked with me to make sure that the bike was a good fit. His good nature and sense of humour immediately put me at ease! I realize that I need to continue to practice but this course has restored my confidence. Prior to this weekend, I was uncertain if riding was going to be for me.

    Thanks to all of you!

  • Hello. I took the M2 Exit course this summer. I was a little hesitant to go and complete the course, however, as soon as I walked into the classroom there was Dave. I could hardly believe that I had the same teacher, as I had for the motorcycle training course. This was really important to me. I relaxed and enjoy the evening.

Dave was very informative, and as usual, I will probably have his voice in my head, reminding me to do this, and not do that for years.

The first day we started out down on Lansdowne. Funny thing, I avoided the city at all costs. You see I live in the north and enjoy riding with peace and quiet. This was an experience. Cars cutting me off, and pulling over with no signal, people rushing everywhere. What am I doing here? Then I heard Dave's calm voice, "Lynn, it is ok, you handled that really well. Turn right at the next intersection." I thought to myself, "I am ok, Dave said I was." and I turned right at the next intersection. Throughout the day there were corrections, but always with a calmness, that helped me to relax and enjoy the ride. I was very tired by the days end, and I had gotten spoken to with a sharpness by one of the other instructors. I was just about to cry, when Dave came over, talked to me about the situation, and told me I would be fine tomorrow. Reminded me of my test time, and left.

One of the ladies in our group talked me into going for a coffee, and chatted with me until she saw me calm down, and then we went our separate ways.

When I got up that morning, and headed into the city, I decided that I was just going to enjoy the ride.

Dave had told us to enjoy the ride, be calm and be aware.

This day was going to be like every other day of riding, and test or no test, I was going to enjoy being on my bike.

I tried to remember everything that was taught to me the Friday night and Saturday.

I went through the test, and even though there were a lot of turns, hwy. riding, lane changes, stops, and all the fun things we do on bikes, enjoying the ride was priority . At one point, I almost forgot they were there.

Before I knew it the test was over, and I had passed. Thank you.

Well Dave, since then, my husband and some of his friends went on a man ride though the USA. Girls not invited.

I had to find something to do for the first week of my holidays. So, I packed up my bike, and left the same day that they left, alone. I drove out to hwy 28 with them, there they went south, and I headed north. I went across to Renfrew, and eventually Kanata the first day. The next day, through rain and sleet and hail, I could hear Dave say, "get off the road, go and find somewhere to get warm and dry until the rains let up." Which I did.

I visited old Quebec city the next day, just because I had never been there before. By Thursday I was headed down through Maine. There I stopped for a bite to eat and a coffee.

One thing they don't teach you in the course is," don't put your back to the window."

Sitting down for a few minutes, and closing my eyes while I was waiting for my lunch to come, all of a sudden there was a horrible crash, the building shook, and the back of my chair was hit by the bench and table behind me. Thankfully the people that had just been sitting there, had paid their bill, and left only minutes before.

What was that? I got up, turned around and saw the headlights of a tan truck in the window, and to my surprise, a man had hit the log building with his truck, and still had his foot on the gas.

What did I think? "I hope he didn't hit my bike!" What a silly response.

Nevertheless, I got up, walked outside, and moved my bike away over to the other side of the parking lot, and went back in to eat. Well, of course it was about that time, that I realized what had really happened. I was in shock, tears started rolling down my cheeks, and I started to shake, my back froze up, and my legs started to give way. But, the man that hit the building came over to me, and started to talk to me.

His first response, "Man, I am glad I didn't hit your bike!" We laughed.

He told me stories about his great, great grandfather, and how he invented the first Indian motorcycle.. well, I forgot all about how I was feeling, and just listened, as he talked, and talked. Eventually the police came, and took my statement, and when I drove away, I saw the old man walking back to his truck with a tire iron, to try to pry the bumper back from his wheels, so he could go home. Wow, what a day! I made it to Augusta Maine that night.

Through the next few days, I went to New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Conneticut, Mass, Vermont, and back across through New York State at the ferry on the Cape to Wolfe Island, another ferry to Kingston and then home.

9 days later, I had made my first solo trip. What a rush! The roads I took were 45 to 50 miles an hour, with lots of curves and hills. What a beautiful ride.

So Dave, just one suggestion to your students, "Don't put your back to the window when you get off the bike, and don't park your bike in front of a window."

    Sincerely,
    Lynn Duffy (Peterborough)

  • Good evening,
I graduated from the M1 Exit course in Whitby at Durham College on July 29, 2007. This was something I never expected to do.

In early May 2007 I purchased a motorcycle from a friend and was so very excited about riding and being in control of my own bike. Although nervous but maintaining a positive attitude, I approached riding cautiously but enthusiastically, and found that I lost that momentum very quickly in trying to master a skill of riding. You know the old saying - never let your husband teach you how to drive....well, that goes for motorcycle riding as well. Not only your husband, but your friends. My husband and friends being motorcycle enthusiasts were very excited for me and tried to offer advise and instructions at every given moment, pointing out things I was doing wrong and providing examples of how each of them ride. Although this was with the best possible intentions, everyone has a way of explaining things, and over the course of about 1 1/2 months, I was all but defeated. I had lost my enthusiasm, and my positive outlook, and to be very frank my confidence wondering how I ever though that I could ride this "thing" and stay alive. I found everything about riding a motorcycle extremely stressful, not relaxing by any means, and I just couldn’t face getting back on it. I got to the point that my nerves were a wreck just gearing up with my jacket, boots, helmet etc, and by the time I was dressed, I felt sick and just couldn't bring myself to go down the street. I parked my bike in the garage in early June and hadn't rode at all, since that time..

I had already registered for the M1 Exit course back in May when I received my M1 licence and purchased by bike. As I had already spent the $ I decided that I would just go for the experience, and just have a weekend away, even if I just sat on the sidelines and watched that was fine for me.

Walking into the classroom on Friday night, and hearing Chris speak along with Ron and the others, it made me wonder if I could actually accomplish riding. I left on Friday night after the lectures still wondering.

Saturday morning, I was extremely hesitant in starting the day by "picking" a bike. As the class is making their choice, Ron comes along pushing this little Red 150cc Honda and says to me, "here this is made just for you". Well, that was just the beginning of a great fun filled confidence building weekend. No one yelled, (except Gunnery Sgt John and his very wonderful animated explanations), no one pressured, no one over explained and they all used language that we could understand. While novices circled them these very brave instructors stood in places I never would have, and provided encouragement and standing there gave us the confidence that they trusted us to control the bikes, even if we didn't trust ourselves 100%. I will never forget Trevor saying as I'm doing a tight turn around him "look at me, look at me, look at me, now look over there - pointing to a point in the sky that I was hopeless at trying to see.!!!!"

Let me just make a long story short by saying that I have never met a more patient, polite, caring, passionate and trustworthy bunch of instructors. I have taken a lot of courses over the last couple of years and believe me, there is not one thing that these instructors said, that was not logical, proven and above all true. Each and everyone of the 8 instructors, Chris, Ron, John, Cecil, Gary, Trevor, Matt and Tim were extremely experienced and knowledgeable and made this course that I was dreading FUN!

Thank you motorcyclecourse.com for training your instructors with this much professionalism, and above all, sending these guys to teach me. I now have an M2 licence, and I am back on my bike enjoying every minute of it. I'm still cruising around parking lots practicing, but I'm looking forward to the day (very soon) that I will be confident enough to go out in the traffic and trail along behind my husband and friends and enjoy the ride under my own steam.

    Thanks again, Yours sincerely,
    Sue MacArthur

  • Greetings,
I have just completed the M1X course at St. Lawrence College - from the 27th-29th of July, 2007. My instructors were Mike, Ken and Martha. I want to congratulate all of them for an outstanding job they have done in taking someone like me, and most of the class, who had never ridden a motorcycle before, and have made me into a confident and informed motorcycle rider. I was very impressed with their knowledge, skills, and ability to show the class the various skills. They worked very well together and if could recommend them to teach any of my friends, I certainly would. I am not someone who usually writes in to thank or congratulate people, but I felt the need to this time.

Congratulations to you and your organization. Congratulations to Mike, Ken and Martha!

    Thank you,
    Fr. Theologos Drakos

  • Hello,
I took my course the weekend of July 27-29th. I really enjoyed the course materials & the organization of the deliverables. It was an excellent course, where I learned a lot. The instructors were fantastic and gave excellent constructive criticism. I would recommend this course to anyone.

I really think - Ottawa should have the m2 exit test available at Algonquin college, I sure would take it.

    Regards,
    Émilie

  • Hi.....I graduated from the M2 course at Fleming College on May 27, 2007. I had only ever been a passenger and I was an extremely anxious student....actually, I registered for this course on two previous occasions, but always chickened out and withdrew. My instructors were Anita, John and Chris and they were absolutely fantastic. The quality of instruction and skill of the instructors was exceptional. They inspired faith, confidence and belief, particularly in their most nervous student....me! They exuded capability and certainty, even in the pouring rain. Thank you Anita, John and Chris for encouraging and supporting me through this very challenging growth experience! See you on the road sometime!

  • Hello Motorcycle Course staff,

I just had a blast taking the M2 course in Peterborough at Fleming college over the weekend with three great instructors Mike Weil, Chris and Matt. (my apologies for forgetting their last names)

I wanted to thank them again for the excellent course and help that was given. My riding confidence and skill improved by magnitudes even after the first day of riding. I only had about 3 weeks of riding under my belt when I took the course, but had already picked up some poor to dangerous habits from self teaching and badly inaccurate riding advice from well meaning friends.

I will recommend to anyone who's looking to get into motorcycles to take their M2 training from Motorcycle Course before even sitting on a bike. The instructors worked up from the basics to remove any bad riding skills to make riders of any level much safer and more aware. They were also friendly, professional, helpful and humorous; it would have been nearly impossible for so much good information and skills to be absorbed by students from instructors with a more distant or formal approach.

Motorcycle Course's high success rate and satisfaction of the group reflects the effectiveness of their teaching well.

It was a lot of fun, I would take it again in a heartbeat!

    Thanks again,
    Ben Crowe

  • Hello,
I did my M2 course this weekend (July 20-22, 2007) at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough. I just had to let you know what phenomenal instructors I had. Mike Weil, Chris Landry and Matt Otten were fantastic. They were very supportive, understanding, and patient. They were great teachers and made sure we had fun and had confidence in ourselves. I highly recommend this program to any new and old bike riders. I will never forget this experience, and I have the instructors to thank for that.

    Thanking you sincerely,
    Twyla

  • Just a short note, after completing my M2Exit Course. Like many, I rode years ago, and have recently rejoined the crowd. Both my wife and I attended the M1 exit and then this one. What a great couple of days. Garth, Bryce and Trevor were superb. Really upped our game in a short period of time and taught us lessons that made sense and will stick forever. I feel more accomplished and prepared. Really excellent. I doubt my partner would have passed the M2 exit without their attentions. Now, she looks forward to the next riding vacation.

    Thanks for all that!

  • I was privileged to have just finished the M2 motorcycle training course at the Whitby Durham College site. What an amazing experience!!! Positive affirmations, patience, humour, clear and succinct directions, non-judgmental, and all-in-all...an incredible learning experience.

Ron was tops at presenting the material, while David, Tim, John, Michell and Ted shared their collective wisdom to us...along with Ron...on the parking lot.

The good news...we all drove our bikes back to the barn...which meant a passing grade for all...but it would NOT have happened without this highly skilled team!

  • Hi I just wanted to say a special thanks to the Women/Men that were very instrumental helping me get my M2(Jun 22/24 /07). As far as I could remember my motorcycle experience was minimal, even though I had my own bike is was hit and miss for me. Its the first time I ever had anyone teach me about riding. I always consider myself to be an excellent rider to my knowledge I was wrong. After taking the training course at Durham College I realize how much I need to know before I can become a better rider.

My one pet-peeve is that the completion certificate should have the individuals name pre-printed to make it look more official.

    Sincerely,
    In His Service

  • Hi Bob

Thank you for all the great information. I just wanted to let you know that I completed the motorcycle training course this past long weekend at the Whitby Durham College campus. It was a fantastic course. I enjoyed myself tremendously. All the instructors were fantastic and very supportive. I was always nervous when asked to do something new but as soon as I got going I was amazed at how quickly I became comfortable on the motorcycle. I was surprised that you could have 40 beginner riders in one parking lot all learning how to ride.

I do wish however that we could have spent a little time on actually shifting and downshifting the gears. I am not quite sure when I should be changing gears and is it necessary to downshift all the time when stopping. I was riding a Honda Titan 125 and was actually able to get the speed without having to shift gears. I did spend most of the time in first gear. I would guess most of the other riders have some knowledge of shifting and down shifting. However I have never driven a standard car and the gears are new to me.

I have purchased a Suzuki Maurader 250CC and am teaching myself shifting and downshifting just by driving around my subdivision.

Once again, any suggestions would be very appreciated. Also do you know of any clubs that are for beginner riders as my subdivision is going to get very boring.

    Thanks,
    Susan

  • (first of all, I would like to say that I'm sorry for my horrible English grammar, I hope you will still be able to appreciate the content of this message)

    Mister,
I'm witting to you this email to talk about the course I took during the weekend of the 22-23-24 of June. I would like, first, to say that I really enjoyed the course. I think that the course is really good and that everybody should take it (especially the ones who ride a motorcycle).

The instructors, Rob (Ron ?,, not sure), Harold and Leo were really nice. They were helpful, good instructors and funny at the same time, what made the course more interesting.

I think that the course, the way it's built (start without the engine on, etc.) is really good. So, everybody (even the ones who already ride a bike) has to start at the beginning. But, I would say that I would have like to have a longer course (is it weird?). I would have been willing to pay up to 800$ for the course for a course twice the longer. I mean, after the course and the test, you are ready to ride, but... you ride only in a parking lot and for the people like me who are more perfectionist or not confident (I guess) it's difficult to go on the street and drive.... it was what I was more afraid of. I would have loved it if we could have gone in the street with the instructor. Maybe could have been a M2 part b (facultative part), something like that. But, I talk for myself, maybe it's not like that for the other students.... I'm just really nervous when it's question of security heheh...

But, I have to say that I would have never ride a bike without that course. That course gave me more confident (for sure) and the desire to want a bike now (.. t's why I got one last Friday :)). They gave me the passion of the riding, which I'm really grateful of. IT's probably why I wish the course was longer, cause I liked it so much ehheh.

I'm lucky, my conjoint has been riding for at least 15 years and is a pilote (of trade) so he is really strong about the security, the security check before the ride, etc. ... so we went riding together and he was a good guide, like the prolongment of the course.... but still it is my conjoint and I would have been more safe with an instructor.... (and, it's more money for you guys hehheeh).

So, that email is just to tell you how I really liked the course, how the instructors were nice and how I recommend that course to everybody. Thanks a lot for the professionalism and the good course, because of you now I ride, I have my bike and I enjoy it.

    Martine

  • l took the course on July 1st week-end in Belleville at Loyalist College. I am 60 years old and have never driven a motorcycle before and of course was very scared and nervous. That soon changed with having John Milner and Brian Southwell as my instructors. They are the most patient men I have ever met. The course was amazingly hard for me at the start and I thought at times that I would never succeed, but I wanted to learn all I could while I was there. I was so proud to have finished the course and then I heard that I had passed almost brought me to tears. Everyone that took the course was cheering each other on and were giving little tips to you like one big happy family. My only regret is that I didn't take a camera to get a group picture. I will never forget any of them. Thank you John and Brian love you both. I will speed it up a little....lol

  • My friend and I recently finished the M2 course in Belleville, it’s an excellent course a lot of good coverage from learning to start your bike to safe driving techniques for on the road. The instructors John Milner and Brian Southwell were very thorough they spent extra time where needed and made everyone at all different levels feel very comfortable. Although the training was intense they made it fun and memorable. Thanks for a great experience.

  • I just finished the M1 to M2 course at Fleming College in Peterborough and it was fantastic. It was a great learning program for those who have never ridden before and even those who have. The instructors, Bryce, Dave and Michelle, were very supportive and thorough in their teaching of theory and practice.

The course included practice of everything from learning about the mechanics of a bike, learning to maintain and winterize a bike, learning to start, changing gears, emergency stopping, swerving, cornering, uphill and downhill riding.

I wasn't sure about riding a motorbike but after taking the course, it gave me the confidence I needed. I would recommend this course to those who are interested in riding a motorbike or just as refresher training for more experienced riders.

    Thank you to my instructors.

  • Hello! I wanted to comment on what a great course you people have. I took the M2 course in Kingston on June 8th, 9th and 10th with Instructors Bill, Leo and Sean and did I ever enjoy it. From the first night, I was impressed. The course material was presented clearly in logical order and the instructors don’t rush anything – that was great for me as I was a complete newbie! Even with a power failure on Friday night, Bill kept going with great humour and obvious mastery of his subject.

Out on the weekend, all three instructors just knew how to work together as an amazing team. They had one instructor explaining what to do as the other two demonstrated while each move was called out ahead of time as if the whole thing were choreographed – it was just seamless. The pace of learning was perfect; we got plenty of time to hone our skills at every step of the way. Even the students who struggled were able to get a little extra attention without the rest of the group being affected.

In particular, I want to mention how patient and supportive our instructors were this weekend. It’s obvious to me and everyone in my class that they love what they do and truly believe in what they teach. Their philosophy of wanting to make sure there are safer riders on the road really shows through with the time they took individually to help us understand our errors and what to do to correct them. As a result of this course, I am confident I will ride safely and with piece of mind.

Lastly, while the course was informative, effective and very enjoyable, it was kept fun and light hearted by excellent humour. Our instructors certainly do have a gift as teachers. Having had the role of instructor myself in various capacities, I was so impressed by their ability to command our group. I only wish that every course people took was in an environment as supportive, effective and stress free as this one is. My compliments go out many times over to the instructors and the organizers of this course.

I would like to end by saying I had a fantastic weekend and will be back again when it’s time for my M2 exit. Thanks so much!

    Sincerely,
    Edwardo Branscombe

  • I am not sure if I am following the correct protocol but I just wanted to share my comments and thoughts regarding the fantastic weekend my husband and I shared in Peterborough.

I am a new rider, in fact I have very little experience even sitting on a bike. This year my husband and I purchased motorcycles. Naturally, my husband has ridden for years and had in fact taken this course previously but due to time constraints and working let his license lapsed.

Although the weekend was extremely hot, the rain held off!!, but the instructors (Chris, Jamie and Trevor) were mindful of the heat and gave us many breaks which was great. It is amazing to me that even in the heat I did not want to stop. I went to the course with a tiny bit of knowledge and left feeling immensely better. I realize I need practice, but I now feel I have a better understanding of the bike I ride and feel more in control. Recently this past weekend, I set off with my husband on a trip, initially I thought we were heading to Campbellford and we ended up in Coehill. I just did not want to stop riding. It is an awesome feeling to be in control. During my ride I remembered many of the things I had learned the previous weekend and was surprised and pleased that I was controlling my bike and able to enjoy myself at the same time!!!!

I understand I need practice and that is how I will improve but I certainly recommend this course and have even encouraged my son to take it, the skills gained are invaluable and I look forward to attending for my M2 exit in a couple of years time.

Thank you to Jamie, Chris and Trevor, your support and positive attitudes have certainly made a huge difference to me as a new rider!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sincerely,
    Karalyn Cobourg, ON

  • Hello, my husband and I took the evening course starting June 3 at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough. We both passed the M2 course. We just wanted to thank all the instructors, Gary, Brett, Anita and Bernie for a terrific course. I had never rode a bike before I arrived the first night, and even though my husband has rode for several years, he took the course with me. He too, realized that he had a lot of bad driving habits and was able to correct them throughout the course. I was put at ease when I met Anita and she assured me not to worry, that they would teach me everything I needed to know.

What a terrific course! We had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun. I learned more in 4 nights than I ever thought possible. All the instructors brought a very high level of expertise, knowledge and experience. They were always encouraging, supportive and ready to help in any way they could.

The instructors are the main component to the success of any course. This one was no different. They were always happy and fun, yet they got the job done at the end of the day. I still can't believe the way they taught so many "non-riders" in such a short period of time with such a high success rate. We both plan to take the M2 exit course as soon as we can.

I feel that I am now entering a new phase of my life and I can't believe that I waited this long to learn to ride. I am 39 and can't wait to spend many years driving with my husband and several of our friends. I have already recommended this course in Peterborough to many of my non-riding friends that are now interested after I was able to take the course and pass with such success.

A sincere thank you from both of us for such a great course, and from me for introducing me to a whole new world of riding.

    Sincerely,
    Angie & Kevin Lane

  • This past weekend I completed the M-2 motorcycle course at Loyalist College in Belleville. I have held an foreign motorcycle license since 1990, so am a fairly experienced rider so was a bit surprised to find that on my return to Ontario I had to start at the M-1 level and work up to a full license. Having said that, I found your course excellent. I learned new techniques and had some faults corrected. Your instructors, John Milner and Brian Southwell had just the right touch to give confidence to riders with little or no experience, while at the same time teaching an old dog like me a few new tricks. The days passed quickly, we had a lot of fun and I will definitely be back to complete the M-2 Exit test with the Motorcycle Course.

    Congratulations on your excellent organization.

    John Clay

  • Great course. I have some riding experience and comfort on 2 wheels from motocross/trails, yet gained a lot from your instructors.

Even got to sample a little rain and gain some confidence on wet pavement.

    Well worth the money!

    Regards,

  • Hello!

I took the M2 course in Kingston this past weekend (May 25-27). I had never riden a bike before and was somewhat apprehensive! Your instructors, Alex, Jamie, and Bill put me at ease right away. They are professional, encouraging, provided constructive feedback, and encouraged us to have FUN!

I learned many valuable things - all things that I will keep with me on and off the road.

I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to ride. In fact, this course should be mandatory.

    Sincerely,
    Paula Muis

    Dear Bob Weil,

I would like to thank you for allowing me to retake the M1 Exit course. Things certainly turned out very differently this time.

When I arrived early on Saturday I spoke to Anita about my unsuccessful attempt at the course in the fall. She immediately helped me find a suitable bike and went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable and at ease.

Throughout the day Matt and Fred in conjunction with Anita were encouraging, positive and uplifting. The day ended on a positive note for me.

Sunday was exceptional, I not only passed the test; but feel that I was treated fairly and with respect. I learned far more on Sunday and gained confidence which was not the case the last time.

Anita, Matt and Fred are exceptional instructors as well as extremely caring individuals, and deserve praise for their work.

I would never drive a motorcycle without taking this course, as I stated before, but now feel I'm ready for the road.

Thanks again to you and my instructors and I wouldn't hesitate to promote this course to anyone if the opportunity arises.

    Sincerely,
    Ann Abbott

  • Dear Friend,

I am writing you this letter to give you some feedback on the M2 Course I took at your Whitby Campus on April 20-22, 2007.

First of all I must commend your Instructors on a job well done. They were all very professional in manner and very cheerful, patient, and knowledgeable. The course outline was well thought out and thorough. The short films on each chapter were just the right length to convey the message for watch topic without being too long to lose anyone's attention span.

I am a Driving instructor for Transport Training at ONTARIO TRUCK TRAINING ACADEMY in Oshawa. I can relate to many things taught in the course and how it is laid out. I would like to offer a couple of suggestions to you (these may be of a biased opinion) which you may want to consider. I feel that not enough is being taught to new drivers about Truck Driving and feel these helpful hints are even more important to a new Motorcycle driver as we are obviously talking about opposite ends of the size spectrum.

When a truck makes a turn, especially on a city street, many times they are forced to start in one lane and then turn into another lane before making the actual turn to another street (this is known as a BUTTONHOOK), The blind spot on a truck is very large and we cannot see motorcycles a lot of the time when making these turns. These lane changes could come on either side of the truck at any intersection depending on the size of the intersection.

I have noticed motorcycle drivers riding within a few feet directly behind a transport to (I assume), stay in the draft and reduce turbulence. This is very dangerous as trucks have been known to lose many parts such as Landing Gear Footpads, Brake linings and many other objects which are heavy and deadly at high speeds. Unfortunately some truck drivers do not yet take pre-trip inspections seriously.

We teach our students that when on a highway, just because someone exits, do not pull up beside them as I have seen numerous times when a vehicle driver realizes they have the wrong exit and pulls back on the highway with no regards for their, or anybody else's safety. Also, if you are in the middle lane for any reason on a highway, do not pull back into the slow lane at any Off or On ramps as merging vehicles are hard to see and read.

I would once again like to thank you for your course as it has made my driving much more fluent and confident since learning about "THE EYES". I would recommend this course to anybody who is beginning to ride and values their safety. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any of these issues or any others you may have in regards to trucks and bikes sharing the road at any time as I would be more than happy to speak with you.

Thank you for your time and consideration into this matter and I am looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.

    Sincerely,
    Robert Cochrane

  • Good Morning: As a proud graduate of the M2 Gearing Up Motorcycle course, I wish to express my sincere gratitude for this awesome course. My son and I took this course this weekend under the guidance of Ron Hare at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario. What a fantastic instructor!!!!! His two assistants Jeannine and Rick were just as fantastic!  I went into the course with a huge fear of turning and leaning. My fear was that the bike would fall over. At noon on the Saturday I was ready to walk away. I was sooooooo nervous, I just couldn't imagine getting over my personal fear. However, after talking to Ron and his encouraging words, after lunch on Saturday, I took a 180 degree turn and I found myself doing figure 8's, the serpentine turns, small circles, large circles. I was doing it!!!!! My fear had subsided. The "eye" instruction is invaluable. I began to relax and have fun!!!!! I was eager and ready to learn on Sunday and my expectations were met fully. The emergency situations instructions, again invaluable! I cannot put into words the value of this course. I feel it should become "mandatory" for all new motorcyclists in Ontario. The wealth of knowledge that this course offers is soooooooo important. I can relax and enjoy my bike, knowing that I have the skills and training to be a safe rider. A huge thank you for offering such a wonderful course. A huge thank you to Ron Hare and his assistants. Both Trevor and I are ready now to hit the road, have fun, and be safe.
    Thanks again,
    Joan MacGregor

  • To whom it may concern, This course was one of the BEST educational courses/experience that I have ever been involved it. I just completed the course a few hours ago and wanted thanks and congratulate all of the instructors and people that help make a course like this happen. I am the type of person that gets nervous easily and considering that I had not rode a motorcycle in a long time I was leery about people watching me, but again it was great. At not one time did I get too worked up. It was a relaxed atmosphere and was fun. Again THANK YOU!
To everyone involved keep up the good work, and I WILL see you for my M2 Exit

  • Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to my three instructors from the motorcycle course that I took the weekend of May 4th, 2007. Mike, Ken and Martha took a girl who knew absolutely nothing about starting, shifting or riding a motorcycle and taught me all of the above plus more. Their enthusiasm and optimism made this last weekend a great experience for me. Keep up the good work guys and once again thanks a million. See you on the road!!

  • I have just completed the M2 course in Belleville (6 to 8 Apr) and even though it was quite cold, the instructors, Bill and Devin made it very interesting and challenging and their instructions was absolutely fantastic. Their enthusiasm and professionalism towards this course and motorcycling safety in general was definitely contagious. Now I know why this course had been so strongly recommended and I personally think that all riders should have the opportunity of been instructed by these two gentlemen. Thank you for a very rewarding experience.

  • I attended the M2 course offered at St Lawrence College last spring, and first of all would like to thank you for providing such an excellent program. Both the program and instructors (Karel Vanek in particular) were fantastic. I was recently at Tony's Cycle in Kingston inquiring about getting a KE100 bike like the ones used in the course, for personal use around my cottage etc...I was advised that your program would no longer be using the bikes and were likely to be getting rid of them. I would like to know if I would be able to purchase one of the bikes when available.

    Thank you very much.

  • Hello, I took and passed the M1 exit course in Whitby April 6-8. I have ridden bikes for over twenty years. The last 8 I have not ridden and my motorcycle license lapsed. So it was time to start all over again through graduated licensing. I took the your course last weekend and mostly looked at it as a two benefit deal. Lower insurance and an in store credit at Mackie H/D. By Sunday afternoon I had not only learned I had several bad habits for riding but I found myself correcting them. On the limited time I have been on my bike (crap weather) since the course I have kept the bad habits from creeping back. So, to my surprise, not only do I get better insurance and an instore credit I will spend foolishly no doubt, I am a much better rider.

I credit my new found safer riding skills to the instructors. I very quickly liked the personality of the course channeled through the instructors. The communicative skills they used were encouraging, intuitive, supportive and the flow was at a pace where new riders weren't lost and experienced riders weren't bored. With several different instructors at any course you would expect different levels of attention, knowledge and commitment. I found none of this. I was impressed with how all instructors acted in the same professional manner and all with the same apparent knowledge.

To illustrate a point. During the final testing on Sunday afternoon a girl new to riding dropped her bike. As the instructor explained the ramifications I was walking by and from the little I heard he did so with an incredible amount of sincere compassion, kindness and caring. I felt not only that she would be back but she would be back and pass.

You see, I have spoken at regional, national and international seminars on communications, team building and crew morale. I not only came away a better rider I also came away with more knowledge for the next round of seminars I speak at. When the time comes I will no doubt take my M2 exit with your program. I wish you the best of luck and continued success.

    Best Regards,
    Peter Lucas

  • M1 exit to M2 - Apr 6, 7 & 8
Until April 7th, I have never ridden a motorcycle before. It has been my desire since I was about 7 years old. When I was told to take an M1 exit to M2 training course, I believed that it was mainly to save on insurance. What I did not understand, as a new rider, is that it is mainly to learn how to ride a motorcycle; the insurance part is just a perk. It is now clear to me that it is very important that every new rider should take some type of training before they get on a motorcycle. Not only am I glad I invested in a motorcycle training course, but I am especially glad that I took it at Durham College in Whitby. My first experience on a motorcycle was a very happy one and it is one that I will never forget. I can’t remember when the last time it was since I had so much fun; even on the coldest of weekends. Furthermore, I cannot begin to explain how great of a job the instructors did; their knowledge, experience and camaraderie was simply – amazing! I strongly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn how to ride.

  • I just completed the M2 course in Belleville yesterday and after a very cold and wet week-end, I am very pleased to have graduated. I had never rode or expierenced a motorcycle/ATV with a clutching system, so I was a very nervous beginner. I cannot say enough about how well the course is set up, and what a fantastic instructor Tim Brown was. It was through his very patient and encouraging teaching technique that helped me get through a few of the aspects I had trouble with. I can honestly say that he is the reason I was able to complete the course with as much confidence as I did. He should be commended for his abilities and I would recommend anyone to take the course with him as an instructor.

  • Hi, This past weekend, April 13-15, I completed the M2 Course through Durham College. Being a beginner, I was very nervous and wasn't sure what to expect. The three senior instructors were Chris, Bernie, Trevor and they did a tremendous job heading up the weekend. All the instructors who participated made you feel at ease, were very patient, supportive and kept telling us to smile....because you know smiles were free. By end of the weekend everyone had permanent smiles. I sincerely want to thank all the instructors for an amazing experience. This is a "must go to" course and would highly recommend it to anyone who has never ridden or even to others who have.

On a separate note, the seniors dealt with much difficulty with the AV/Computer equipment. To make the day run smoother and more professional, I am suggesting updated equipment would be in order.

  • Hello my name is Jordan and I just took this course the past weekend at loyalist college, I think this course was really excellent and well set up with awesome instructors. I learned a lot from it that I didn't know before even after riding my bike for little over a year. Only things that sucked was the rain and cold wind on sunday but we got through it. Thanks for such a great course.

One question, now that I have got my M2 the M2 exit course provided is that the same thing with routines and such or is it differently set up or kind of a refresher with a test at the end?

    Thanks again :D

  • Hi Sandra, I just completed the M2 exit course (and passed) and thought that I would send my comments via email as we did not hand in our evaluation forms.

    1. Yes, it was a good experience.
    2. I liked the fact that is was a refresher of the previous course and the instructors made sure that we were aware before going on the road.
    3. Yes, the course met my expectations.
    4. The instructors (Tony & Randy) were great. They made me feel relaxed yet made sure that I was learning and following the instructions.
    5. The instructors and fellow motorcyclists were very patient with me as I ran into bike problems with my battery - the problems was resolved but I did appreciate all of their patience. After completing both courses, I believe that these courses should be mandatory for anyone going to get their motorcycle license.

  • Hi there: I just wanted to give some feedback on the Motorcycle Course that I just successfully completed. My instructors were Bernie, Anita and Ray at Fleming College in Peterborough. I couldn't have been more impressed by the way this course was presented. Not only did I have the time of my life, the instructors were funny, patient and provided a wealth of knowledge that far surpassed my expectations. I am 48 years old and had never been on a motorcycle before and they not only taught me, they encouraged me and left me with confidence I didn't think I would ever have. Bernie, Anita and Ray make a great team and I'll never forget how much they influenced me in looking forward to riding my motorcycle. A great big thanks. I learned so much in this course and it was worth every penny. It was an extra bonus to have Anita help instruct. She is funny and patient and full of encouragement. Anita put all of the female students at ease immediately and her help was immeasurable. Thanks again.

  • My name is Angela Scholl and I recently took the M2 course @ Durham
College this past weekend. I enjoyed the course and it was very
informative and I could not imagine ever riding a motorcycle without
having taken this course. The instructors were incredible, Susan was by
far my favorite very reassuring and always gave constructive criticism.
Cecil Chris & Ron where also very very helpful. Some of the video in class curriculum was a little boring and was better understood when an
instructor went over it afterwards. Overall I have no complaints the
course was great the instructors where well educated and for the cost it
was well worth it! Thanks very much for giving me a safe and informed head start!

  • I just finished the M1 exit course this weekend. It was a wonderful experience. I took the course in Whitby Ontario and the instructors were incredible. Chris, Ron and Susan were outstanding. As a type one diabetic that needs to take 5 needles a day, they were understanding, nothing horrible happened but I got a huge migraine, due to my sugar levels halfway through the day. Susan moved me up to the front of the line for the test so I could get it done and go sit down. It was very thoughtful.
I will recommend your course to everyone!

  • At 49 years of age, I have driven a moped, ski-dooed, boated, bicycled, 4-wheeled, kayaked, raced sled-dogs for 10 years, water-skied, but never had driven a motorcycle (but always wanted to since I was 18).

Learning to drive a motorcycle, over this past weekend, was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life.

After dropping my motorcycle in front of everyone at approximately 9:30am Saturday morning (not running yet) and hearing the instructor telling me to look up and move my head to look where I wanted the bike to go, a thousand times over -- I successfully completed the course and received my certificate. I am extremely proud of myself for this accomplishment.

I wrote my M1 test in Belleville, then signed up for the practical course in Peterborough. I strongly believe that the practical course should be a pre-requisite to the M1 written test. I would have caused bodily harm to someone or myself had I gotten on a motorcycle right after passing my M1 written test in Belleville - not having a clue about driving a motorcycle.

I commend the instructors for being firm and teaching me what I needed to know about driving a motorcycle. Hi Ray, Bernie & Anita !!

I am currently looking into purchasing my own bike, while I watch my husband drive his new Harley. I have to wait to ride with him until his M2 is in effect (middle of May) and he feels confident enough to take me as a passenger. I can't wait - whichever comes first !! Oh, ya, he took the course with me.

    Happy trails...............

  • I recently completed the M2 Course through Durham College on September 8,  9 and 10. We were told you liked to receive feedback on the course, it has taken me a while to get to it but here it is. I couldn't be more please with how the course went, I started as a nervous beginner who had only rode once or twice and by the end I was getting more and more confident with my skills. The head instructors name was Tim, and his helpers were Gary, Jeff and Brian I believe. They were all amazing, they made it a relaxed and safety oriented atmosphere. I couldn't believe how far everyone came along in only two days, there wasn't one time where I saw anyone without a smile on their face. I went in expecting it to be boring and to make for a long weekend but by the end I was sad it was over. It made me think that instructing this course is something I would enjoy doing sometime down the road. Thanks for offering this great course.

  • I had the opportunity to take the M2 course over the weekend of Sep 8-10,  2006. I had never been on a motorcycle of any sort. It was an interesting and scary feeling on the first morning of practical training. By the afternoon, I was feeling comfortable and confident on the bike. The instructors for this course, Mike and Leo, were fantastic. Both were very knowledgeable and they were excellent in providing praise and instruction which made the task at hand feel much easier. This helped me to relax learn new skills! By the end of the third day, I was extremely confident in my riding skills and thoroughly enjoyed riding around the campus grounds of Loyalist College. By the time the evaluation came, I had no problem completing the test! I will definitely be recommending this course to others who are interested in getting their M2 licence.
    Thanks!!

  • Friends and family, as well as other riders, all recommended your course. I NOW KNOW WHY! I just finished the course in Peterborough on the labour day weekend. While the weather was not the best, the course was!

Trevor, John & Becky were nothing short of outstanding. They spent as much time as was needed with each and every one of us. Not a single student was “glanced over” or “pushed through” for the sake of efficiency. To quote Trevor; “We started as a team, we will finish as a team”.

I also appreciated the way they turned the cones into everyday life, ie. “that’s not a row of cones, that’s a ’75 Buick backing out of a driveway.”

Simply put, they showed that while there must be a respect for the road, there can be a lifetime of passion and enjoyment for it as well.
    Thank you

  • I just finished taking my course in Belleville a couple of weekends ago (Aug 18 - 20). Can't say enough about the instructors and the time spent on the bikes. I have only been riding for a couple of months and the course was a huge benefit. Instruction was excellent. People who needed extra attention got it. Would love to get my wife on the course next summer. I strongly suggest that all M1's take this course.
    Thanks guys!!!

  • I took the M2 course this previous weekend (Aug.11-13) at Durham College and had a fantastic time. I rode a street bike some twenty years ago for several summers with a class R license and decided to get back into motorcycling again. I enrolled for the course hoping to learn new skills and brush up on the old and I was not disappointed in the least. I had lots of fun and learned many new things and met some new friends along the way. What a great way to meet other bikers! This course proved to be invaluable and I can't believe that anybody would start to ride today without taking this course first. For the younger crowd who think it may be uncool to take lessons (we've all been there), let me say that I've changed my opinions over the years and I think taking this course is way cooler than possibly laying on the side of the road. The instructors (Tim, Ray, Matt, Brent, and Trevor) should all be congratulated on doing such a great job with us as a group and I hope you pass this along. Everybody was made to feel comfortable as a group and we all seemed to park our egos upon entering this course. We were all there as equals to learn from our instructors as well as each other. I will be sure to take the M2 Exit course in a couple of summers as I have come to realize how important this training is to staying aware and staying alive. The fun had by everyone is purely a bonus.
Thanks for such a great time! See you again.

  • This was a great experience fun and educational, Tim and his crew were great they taught us how to be safe and made it fun as well. I at first felt it was slow as I have ridden before but then I realized I was starting to understand the mechanics behind what I have been taking for granted.

My friend and I took it together he has never ridden before and seeing how much better he rides and with great confidence i am glad we did it. Thanks for all the fun; I will recommend it to everyone who wants to ride.

  • Randy and Tony (Whitby) are the best instructor team you can find. Randy has a very relaxed attitude that allows us to be ourselves and instills confidence, while Tony pays close attention to the details that make us a better rider.

Thanks for the great experience in helping me achieve my M license.

  • I already had a bike and a license... The course was better than I ever imagined & the instructors were great.

  • This course taught me to have the confidence in handling, (and) road safety... The instructors were very knowledgeable and had a lot of patience with our crew. The class size was just right for if anyone had trouble you got individual guidance and help.

  • Having been a motorcycle dispatch rider... and a divisional motorcycle officer with the Toronto Police Department... I have taken many motorcycle training courses... Throughout two days of intensive instruction these instructors... constantly exercised tremendous aptitude, patience, diligence and devotion while coaching each rider with utmost skill... The Gearing Up program enjoys the recognition as the finest rider training program anywhere in the world...This recognition is well earned and justly deserved.

  • I have very short legs, and was concerned about the height of the seat on the training bikes. Two other courses brushed me off... and your course brought in a bike for me to use! The course was well worth every penny, and the instructors were incredible! They were even able to instruct me in French, which helped a lot. Thank you, thank you.
